COBRA-OS® (Control Of Bleeding, Resuscitation, Arterial Occlusion System) has a clear purpose: to enable emergency responders to perform the REBOA procedure in time-critical situations, achieving effective control of bleeding while minimizing the risk of complications arising from the procedure.
What is a REBOA procedure?
REBOA (Resuscitative Endovascular Balloon Occlusion of the Aorta) is a minimally invasive procedure in which the aorta is occluded using a ballon to stop acute bleeding and redirect blood flow to vital organs. For selected patients, the REBOA procedure is a valid alternative to highly invasive thoracotomy.
The REBOA procedure is primarily recommended in the following cases:
- NCTH, or massive internal bleeding in the thoracic area, where no external compression can be applied
- Thoracic trauma with massive intra-abdominal or pelvic hemorrhage
- Acute postpartum hemorrhage that cannot be treated with standard methods
- Trauma-induced cardiac arrest
- Field conditions in military, tactical, and disaster medicine
- In situations where the transit time to the hospital takes a long time and an earlier intervention is crucial
